Sustainable tourism

"The preservation and appreciation of nature is everybody’s business, it is a collective cultural heritage to preserve, for the quality of life and the landscape as well as for the future.”

Sustainable development is a constant concern for Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve.  The respect and preservation of natural and cultural resources are the priorities of the city.

Louvain-la-Neuve is an example of this in itself.

The preservation and integration of nature from the beginning of the establishment of Louvain-la-Neuve was one of the main directing elements in the conception of the city.  The natural spaces from the past, namely cultivated land, planted slopes and paths, were preserved.

Specific locations in the city can be pointed out concerning this theme:

·         Baraque District, a surprising alternative district in Louvain-la-Neuve

·         The Sustainable Development Office, Gingko Biloba in Louvain-la-Neuve

·         The Pleiad House, an example of an energy efficient building in the Bruyères district of Louvain-la-Neuve

·         Recyhouse, a house made of recycled materials in Limelette
